Located on the east of Lake Biwa, the biggest lake in Japan is Koto Sanzan (three mountains on the east of the lake), which includes Saimyo-ji Temple, Kongorin-ji Temple and Hyakusai-ji Temple. Found there and designated as important cultural assets are many monuments, Buddhist statues and pictures that are surrounded by colorful leaves in Autumn.

Ishiyama-dera Temple is one of the headquarters of the Shingon Buddhism sect and inside the temple precinct stands a nature treasure named Keikaigan rock, it is the reason for the temple's name of Ishiyama-dera (temple of rock mountain). Autumn leaves can be seen at the temple entrance or main hall, which is designated as a National Treasure.

Dorohaccho is the other name of downstream of Dorokyo Gorge. Both shores lines have abrupt cliff faces, covered with dense forest on top. A jet boat is available for exploring the river in the valley.
